Project leader Garrick Allen has recently published an accessible academic book called Words are Not Enough: Manuscripts, Paratexts, and the Real New Testament. The New Testament’s Greek manuscripts have a rich and lively paratextual tradition, and the book explores the value of taking a close look at paratexts, working to understand their impacts on readers and what they say about what the New Testament is. The New Testament is not something that exists in any perfect form; instead its the product of human effort and intellectual effort, honed over millennia.
Words are Not Enough explores our project’s themes head on, thinking carefully about how material and paratextual realities effect the ways that people engage and think about their sacred traditions.
