Jonathan Zecher
On 25 November, I will take three small groups through the long life of the 12th c. Gospel Book of Theophanes (Melbourne NGV Felton 710-5), exploring its creation, use, and continued existence through the entangled actions of humans, animals, bacteria, and water. We will look at the famous illustrations, but also the corrections and recorrections, the liturgical notes for readers, the hairs of the animals that died to make the parchment, the holes left by worms, water damage and wax droplets, absorbed sweat of generations of readers, and all the little details that serve us as landmarks in the body of the manuscript. These three sessions are booked out. https://events.unimelb.edu.au/arts/event/discovering-the-melbourne-gospels
